Overview

The Just Transition Think Lab is a UN Global Compact initiative aimed at fostering fair and inclusive approaches to the global shift toward net-zero and climate-resilient economies. It ensures this economic transformation delivers decent work and opportunity—while safeguarding vulnerable workers and communities.

Why Does It Matter?

1. Aligned with global standards:

Built around the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights (UNGPs) and the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles, providing a solid, internationally recognised framework.

2. Issue-focused analysis:

Covers key human rights topics such as child and forced labour, discrimination, freedom of association, health & safety, living wage, migrant rights, indigenous peoples, gender equality, environmental health, and working time.

3. Practical and action-oriented:

Offers analysis of risk factors by industry, due diligence steps, and real-world case studies to help businesses take informed action.

UNGC's Approach

1. Accelerating progress: The Forward Faster initiative encourages companies to embed just transition goals into climate action, gender equality, living wages, water resilience, and finance—driving cross‑sectoral impact.

2. Think Lab Sessions: In 2022–2023, the Lab brought together 27 companies and over 15 partners (including ILO and ITUC) to explore how businesses can embed just transition into strategy, advocacy and practices—producing five industry-relevant business briefs.
